Hope is Not Audacious

By: Anthony G. D’Agnese

In troubled times, it may seem that to hope requires audacity. But, hope is not audacious. It’s all around us. Hope lives in the laugh of a child. It is felt in the warmth of the sun, the taste of water, the cool breeze. Hope resides in us all. Hope is not audacious.

To believe that someday the inhabitants of this planet will be united more by common dreams than divided by misunderstanding and hate; that is audacious. To believe someday more people will be motivated by tolerance towards those others with cultural and ideological differences than those driven by extremist interpretations of dogma; that is audacious.

But, in the laugh of a child and the emotional response we all share to that laugh, lays our basic human commonality. We are all much more alike than we are different.

Most of the world’s religions teach Love as a core value, yet to believe that someday the world will be governed by Love; that is truly audacious!

Of course, there is always Hope.
